Colorful Sandhill Cranes

I captured these cranes south of Kearney, Nebraska. Many people think of the sandhill cranes as a drab bird, lacking in color and excitement. The truth is much the opposite. Sandhill cranes are very colorful in their own way. Their red heads are very unique and stand out amongst the corn fields and rivers where they are viewed. During the spring, they begin their mating displays were they dance and chant in a very colorful manner. I have great respect and wonder for these birds when I observe them in the wild.
